My mind raced around as I read this talk.
Elder Cook started by talking about Lehi and his Tree of Life dream. His description of the people who fell away seemed to hit hard.
"...conduct that destroys faith... proud, vain, and foolish... interested only in the so-called wisdom of the world."
I see this in family members and it stings. I want them to know that God's message is for everyone! He loves His children. He wants all to return. Me too!
I want to rescue everyone!
I want to raise my kids in truth and in righteousness. I also want them to feel loved and not judged.
I want my example to speak loudly to who I want to become.
2 Nephi 25:26 "And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
I love the scriptures. I love to read them and to ponder them. I am not so good at teaching them to my kids.
I've got a long way to go in convincing them all the peace that comes in putting an effort into living a life seeking truth and righteousness.
I like how Elder Cook taught that it takes active persistence. I may not be perfect at it, but I can continually "start over."
Now to work on persistence... without getting stubborn.
