The table top was 3'x1.5'. I cut it in half and used 2 hinges on the top of the table and a slide bolt (barrel bolt) on the side to hold it together. I legged the table top with 2x4s and put braces on the sides of the legs. I hinged on set of legs to the floor and used a 1x4 painted the same as the floor on the other side as a stopped. The actor then slid the bolt open and "tripped", kicking the legs of the table so that the table bent in half and the legs stopped on the stopper.
